Medhurst is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and achieving Net Zero by 2050, in line with global initiatives to deliver carbon neutrality. Improving the life chances of young people through education is central to our business, and we take our sustainability responsibilities seriously.
Progress to date
Since establishing our baseline year in 2021/22, we have invested in a range of initiatives to reduce our environmental impact. These include an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme, expanding the number of electric vehicles in our fleet, increasing EV charging capacity for business and personal use, and transitioning our electricity supply to a 100 percent renewable energy tariff.
In the latest assessment period we achieved a 29 percent reduction in emissions per employee and a 2 percent reduction in emissions per million pounds of turnover, compared with our baseline year.
Our target
To maintain momentum on our Net Zero journey, we have set a target to reduce our carbon emissions to 87.95 tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2028, a 49.2 percent reduction from our baseline.
Independent verification
Our appraisals are completed by carbon management specialists Carbon Footprint, providing independent verification of our progress and ensuring our reporting remains robust and transparent. Looking ahead, we are moving our gas supply toward a carbon-neutral provider and undertaking a structured review of our supply chain to ensure we source from suppliers who align with our environmental standards.
